p = 2x^{2} โ x^{2} + 3xy โ xy โ y^{2}

p = x^{2} + 2xy โ y^{2}

**(b) What should be subtracted from 2a + 8b + 10 to get โ 3a + 7b + 16?**

**Solution:-**

Let us assume x be the required term

Then,

2a + 8b + 10 โ x = -3a + 7b + 16

x = (2a + 8b + 10) โ (-3a + 7b + 16)

x = 2a + 8b + 10 + 3a โ 7b โ 16

x = 2a + 3a + 8b โ 7b + 10 โ 16

x = 5a + b โ 6

**5. What should be taken away from 3x ^{2} โ 4y^{2} + 5xy + 20 to obtain โ x^{2} โ y^{2} + 6xy + 20?**

**Solution:-**

Let us assume a be the required term

Then,

3x^{2} โ 4y^{2} + 5xy + 20 โ a = -x^{2} โ y^{2} + 6xy + 20

a = 3x^{2} โ 4y^{2} + 5xy + 20 โ (-x^{2} โ y^{2} + 6xy + 20)

a = 3x^{2} โ 4y^{2} + 5xy + 20 + x^{2} + y^{2} โ 6xy โ 20

a = 3x^{2} + x^{2} โ 4y^{2} + y^{2} + 5xy โ 6xy + 20 โ 20

a = 4x^{2} โ 3y^{2} โ xy

**6. (a) From the sum of 3x โ y + 11 and โ y โ 11, subtract 3x โ y โ 11.**

**Solution:-**

First we have to find out the sum of 3x โ y + 11 and โ y โ 11

= 3x โ y + 11 + (-y โ 11)

= 3x โ y + 11 โ y โ 11

= 3x โ y โ y + 11 โ 11

= 3x โ 2y

Now, subtract 3x โ y โ 11 from 3x โ 2y

= 3x โ 2y โ (3x โ y โ 11)

= 3x โ 2y โ 3x + y + 11

= 3x โ 3x โ 2y + y + 11

= -y + 11

**(b) From the sum of 4 + 3x and 5 โ 4x + 2x ^{2}, subtract the sum of 3x^{2} โ 5x and**

**Solution:-**

First we have to find out the sum of 4 + 3x and 5 โ 4x + 2x^{2}

= 4 + 3x + (5 โ 4x + 2x^{2})

= 4 + 3x + 5 โ 4x + 2x^{2}

= 4 + 5 + 3x โ 4x + 2x^{2}

= 9 โ x + 2x^{2}

= 2x^{2} โ x + 9 โฆ [equation 1]

Then, we have to find out the sum of 3x^{2} โ 5x and โ x^{2} + 2x + 5

= 3x^{2} โ 5x + (-x^{2} + 2x + 5)

= 3x^{2} โ 5x โ x^{2} + 2x + 5

= 3x^{2} โ x^{2} โ 5x + 2x + 5

= 2x^{2} โ 3x + 5 โฆ [equation 2]

Now, we have to subtract equation (2) from equation (1)

= 2x^{2 }โ x + 9 โ (2x^{2} โ 3x + 5)

= 2x^{2} โ x + 9 โ 2x^{2} + 3x โ 5

= 2x^{2} โ 2x^{2} โ x + 3x + 9 โ 5

= 2x + 4
